George Freeman Brooks
George Freeman Brooks was born on October 25, 1904, in Mankato, Minnesota, to Margaret Limbert, age 39, and Walter Freeman Brooks, age 43. In Rye his family lived at Blind Brook Lodge.
Freeman graduated from the University of Illinois Medical School. He interned at Bellevue Hospital in New York City and completed his specialty training there.
He married Katherine Jane Weinman Friday September 3, 1937, and they had one son and two daughters.
Freeman served as an officer in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Rye Men Called to Active Service at Fort Jackson Dr. Freeman Brooks, of Blind Brook Lodge, and William M. Cahn. of Winderest Road, reserve lieutenants in the Army Reserve Corps. , have been called into active service. They have been assigned to duty a; Fort Jackson, S. C. Mrs . Brooks and her daughter. After completing his military service, Freeman opened a private internal medicine practice in Rye. He retired in 1975.
He was a founding member of the Rye Medical Group, which formed in 1961. He was a member of Christ Church in Rye. He moved to Columbus, NC in the late 1970's.
Dr. G. Freeman Brooks, a former Rye resident, died Wednesday, May 28, 1997, at St. Luke's Hospital in Columbus, N.C. He was 92. He was predeceased by his first wife Katherine and his daughter Andrea.
In addition to his wife, Elizabeth, he was survived by a son, Harlow Brooks of Grand Junction, Colo.; and a daughter, Katherine Glen of Lexington, Va. McFarland Funeral Chapel in Tryon, N.C., is handling the arrangements.
A memorial service was held at Congregational Church of Christ, Tryon, NC , the Rev. Qj. Ronald Stegall officiated.
